ATS Engineering Benefits

ATS Engineering motors have significant advantages:

Product

  • Two to Sixteen Pole Designs and 12,000 RPM+ Speeds

The product breadth provides the user with the ability to select the base speed, what the power curve characteristics are and where the critical speed will be located.

  • Ultra Low Inertia Rotors

Proprietary and proven rotor designs deliver industry leading motor inertia values for faster shaft acceleration.  Also less power is wasted accelerating the rotor itself

  • Liquid Cooled Motors for NVH Testing

Most motor designs can be liquid cooled making them ideal for low noise applications such as hemi-anechoic, NVH and chassis roll test beds.

  • Custom Designs to Meet Exact Application Requirements

ATS Engineering can select from a wide range of previously manufactured motors or design application specific requirements into a form factor that meets a customer's exact needs.

  • Industry Leading Delivery Times

Using a world-class supplier base, experienced engineering staff and accepted critical path project planning tools, ATS Engineering provides an advantage in today's fast paced, competitive world.

  • Reliable Performance and Quality

Faced with ever-increasing pressures to cut cost, improve quality and efficiency, today's manufacturers benefit tremendously from ATS Engineering's commitment to quality, reliability and performance.

  • Ongoing AC Motor Research

Partnering with the Dresden Technical University, motor optimization concepts are continually evaluated for their potential benefits.

  • Ceramic Bearings

The bearings are ceramic deep groove ball bearings (up to 12,000 rpm).  The ceramic bearings provide electrical isolation and will not carry stray currents to ground as metallic bearings would, causing sparking, pitting and bearing integrity issues.

  • 0 rpm Achievable at Maximum Torque

With the fans switched on ATS Engineering motors can achieve 0 rpm with maximum torque for a few minutes.

Manufacturing Applications

  • Low Rotor Inertia

Production throughput can be increased while reducing electrical power consumption using the ATS Engineering low inertia, transient response motors.  There is less rotor mass to accelerate on each transient event (such as slitting operations) and OEMs have the ability to reduce cycle times with improved angular acceleration rates.

Testing Applications

  • Broad Consistent Power Rating

Both development and production testing operations benefit from ATS Engineering designs.  The broad consistent power rating up to five times the base speed allows one motor system to test a variety of engines or powertrain components.  The low motor inertia allows rapid transient events to be precisely duplicated such as in US EPA emission certification testing.

  • Low Noise Levels

Liquid cooled designs lend themselves well to today's NVH testing requirements where reduced levels of test machine noise is required in order to effectively develop electric and hybrid powertrain systems.

  • Customer Specific Motor Designs

Unique motor designs such as 'motor in the middle' configurations lend themselves well to compact chassis roll dynamometer configurations.  This package reduces parts count and improves overall system reliability.
